50 Best Places to Eat 2025

Our 50 Best Places to Eat list is here!

It’s with great pleasure that we are here, once again, to present you with another 50 Best Places to Eat list.

While this year’s list highlights the fifty best places to eat in Halifax, Annapolis Valley and South Shore, the process used to determine this year’s winners also helped us uncover where ALL of the best places to eat are. In total, there are an additional 19 culinary destinations that have scored high enough for automatic inclusion in our annual culinary guide, while another 30 or so have scored high enough for consideration. You will be able to see the final result of this process next year, in June, when we release the 10th Anniversary Edition of The Curated Guide.

Anyhoo, it’s time to get onto the business of this year’s 50 Best Places to Eat. So, let’s get to it!

Congratulations to this year’s winners!

1. Bessie North House

Returning as the number one best place to eat in Nova Scotia, Bessie North House continues to captivate diners at its rural, farmhouse setting in Canning. A truly intimate experience hosted by owners Susan Meldrum and David Smart, the 140-year-old farmhouse seats only 12 people. In the kitchen, Smart taps into the incredible bounty of the Annapolis Valley, crafting hyper local, ever-changing tasting menus where each course shines a light on a much-deserving ingredient. Reservations are needed, and the updated system now makes booking a table here that much easier.

3. Tribute

Open on the Halifax waterfront for less than a year, chef-owner Colin Bebbington and his team at Tribute are already elevating the expectations for dining in the city. Watch the team work in the fully open kitchen featuring a wood-fired grill. The menu is shaped around seasonal produce, exceptional seafood and local meat, plus includes hand-made pastas. Bebbington learned from internationally recognized pasta makers in Bologna, Italy before bringing back this new skillset. Tribute is serving high-end food that still feels grounded, and the service style rivals fine dining destinations far and wide. 6. The Narrows
Public House

The Narrows offers the quintessential East Coast pub experience. Housed in a designated heritage property, this Victorian home built in 1896 was extensively restored to become what it is today — a multi-room pub with no shortage of cozy nooks, real wood-burning fireplaces, and hearty plates of classic fare. Along with big plates of boiled dinner and hot sandwiches smothered in gravy are refined takes on deviled eggs and pickled herring. In the warmer months enjoy a pint on the large backyard patio. 7. Ori Foods Co.

We’re still in shock that a top-ten culinary destination lives on Wyse Road in Dartmouth, but this isn’t the first time ORI Foods has made our list. While this eight-seat café calls itself a breakfast and lunch destination, it quietly offers some of the most skillfully made pastries in Halifax. Pair that with a former fine dining chef creating lunch specials to go along with the selection of sandwiches, soups, and salads, and you’ve really got a one-of-a-kind establishment. 8. Charcuterie Ratinaud

aka. Lunch with Fred

Is it a surprise that a charcuterie shop would be home to the best lunch counter in Halifax? We don’t think so. A low-key, relaxed destination for from-scratch lunch items like raclette with ham and pickles, porchetta sandwiches or French onion soup. Ratinaud draws on its wide array of house-made charcuterie items and top-notch cheese case, but also takes time to prepare ingredients like brisket, roasted chicken, and its own freshly baked breads. Can’t stop in for lunch? Order it to go, or peruse the selection of prepared foods like cassoulet, beef bourguignon, and onion and duck pie.
